How to Integrate CIJ Printers into High-Speed Automated Packaging Lines?

How to Integrate CIJ Printers into High-Speed Automated Packaging Lines?

May 21, 2026

1. Matching Production Line and Inkjet Coder Performance

① Speed Matching: Determine the maximum operating speed of the production line and select a CIJ device with a corresponding printing rate:

Standard High-Speed Lines (≤ 150 meters/minute): A conventional single-nozzle CIJ unit is sufficient.

Ultra-High-Speed Lines (150–400 meters/minute): Select an ultra-high-speed model (e.g., VJ 1880 UHS) or a dual-nozzle collaborative printing system.

② Data Capacity Matching: Based on the content to be printed (production dates, batch numbers, QR codes, graphics, etc.), determine the required print area. A single-nozzle CIJ typically supports 1 to 5 lines of characters; for multi-lane production lines, a horizontally traversing printhead can be utilized to achieve simultaneous printing across multiple lanes.

② Material Compatibility: Based on the packaging material (plastic, glass, metal, film, etc.), select an appropriate fast-drying, high-adhesion ink to prevent text smudging or detachment after printing.

2. Selection of Installation Location

Prioritize workstations where the packaging remains stable and free from vibration. Recommended locations for various production line scenarios include:

Production Line Type Recommended Installation Location Precautions
Bottling/Canning Line Conveyor section between filling and sealing, and labeling Ensure the container remains upright and stable, maintaining a distance of 10–20 mm from the nozzle to prevent residual liquid from contaminating the nozzle.
Vertical / Pillow Packaging Line Material Conveyance: Stable Section (Following Bag Formation and Sealing) It can be mounted directly inside the packaging machine and triggered to print in synchronization with the machine's bag-cutting signal.
Secondary Packaging Line Horizontal Conveyor Section Before Carton Sealing For multi-sided printing requirements, multiple sets of printheads can be deployed to address different printing surfaces.
Bottle Bottom / Irregular Surface Printing Side-Clamping Conveying Section When paired with bottom-mounted nozzles or angle-adjustable brackets, and supplemented by custom conveyor fixtures where necessary, the system ensures product stability.
