CIJ printers operate on a continuous recirculation loop. As ink circulates, the solvent component constantly evaporates:
· At the nozzle: ink droplets fly through the air before hitting the substrate — solvent evaporates
· At the gutter: unused droplets are collected and recirculated — more solvent loss
· In the ink tank: the open surface allows slow evaporation
